That was a close one.  5 points separates the top 5 Fantasy Leaguers as pretty much everyone had two of the runner ups in McIlroy and Fleetwood.  BlueCoverman emerges victorious after the playoff determined that Shane Lowry's sixth placed finish was enough to topple SetupDetermines who had David Howell as his next best finisher at 14th.

RedRage had the most picks score points with five and that was enough to tie LadyPutt, who had three picks score points, and 1GrumpyGolfer, who had two picks score points, for third place.  Davie had two picks score points but he couldn't close the gap with just three picks in play.

Chris Doak and Mark Foster had closing 66s for the best rounds of the day and Garrick Porteous had a poor day; he shot 79 to slide down the leaderboard into last place.

Tommy Fleetwood and Louis Oosthuzen shot 62s to tie for low round of the day.  Thriston Lawrence shot an 80 at Kingsbarns for the worst round of the day.  Fleetwood was chosen by everyone bar RedRage.  The cut line fell at -4 and only 4 bonuses were awarded.  RedRage was the only one to keep Category A intact.  1GrumpyGolfer, Davie, and LadyPutt have all of Category B.  Davie only had Category B left. Low round scores mark was 65 and only three picks met that number.

All to play for tomorrow

The first event after the Ryder Cup sees a victorious captain and four of his team grace the field and many golf courses that the Alfred Dunhill Championship is played over.  The play is spread over the three courses and the cut takes place after round three; the final round will be played at St. Andrews.  It's a slightly bigger field than normal which will also get cut to fewer than normal due to this being a pro-am tournament.

Rory McIlroy is the only player from within the top 10 in the OWGR and eight others from within the top 50 are also in the field.  Eleven former winners are in attendance: David Howell (defending champion), Branden Grace, Michael Hoey, Martin Kaymer, Simon Dyson, Robert Karlsson, Nick Dougherty, Padraig Harrington (multiple winner), Colin Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher, and Paul Lawrie.  The only other winner not to take part is Lee Westwood.  Also included is Ryder Cup numptie, I mean captain, in Nick Faldo.

We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one.  The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around.  If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.  Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Unofficial update:

Setup has Paddy, the colours have Lowry, and they're the only ones to get off of the mark.

Question for the good lady judge:
Can I amend the scoring for this event so that points are awarded in the first three rounds for Top 5 Low Round scores? That would give all picks the chance to score points on the easier playing course.

GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #10 - Alfred Dunhill Empty Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #10 - Alfred Dunhill

Post by 1GrumpyGolfer Fri Oct 03, 2014 8:31 pm

The scoring system is not set up with this particular tour event and some others in mind. If your picks start well you have a chance to score some points in round one. Your guys make the cut after round two you get more points. There's more scoring available in round three to try and allow other players to catch up or not lose interest if they didn't have many picks through to the weekend. More points come after round four for good finishes.

In this event three different courses are used and the cut doesn't take place until after round three. The scoring is also weighted towards those who have their picks typically playing St. Andrews or Kingsbarns in round three. In my opinion it shouldn't be luck of the tee time draw that determines who gets the most points and everyone should get a fair crack at it.

Although it appears that I throw this stuff together in five minutes it ain't that quick.  It won't bother me one bit if LadyPutt says no to the proposed change as I won't have to change my templates. That said, it would have been better had I offered, or had, the scoring changes up front but I didn't put it together until when I was making my picks. The same changes to scoring should, would, also apply to The Farmers Insurance event at Torrey Pines and the Mickey Mouse, 1000, player event in South Africa as they are both played over different courses in the first two rounds.

This is LINKS golf we have here, it's all down to the tee time draw. Once the tide moves in or out, the whole course environ changes.

Can I amend the scoring for this event so that points are awarded in the first three rounds for Top 5 Low Round scores?  That would give all picks the chance to score points on the easier playing course.

Seems sensible to me (especially if it gives me some points as LPRPitis appears to have struck again).

This is LINKS golf we have here, it's all down to the tee time draw. Once the tide moves in or out, the whole course environ changes.

Perhaps it was only me that was joking!  GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #10 - Alfred Dunhill 3461234324

It's amazing it is thought very clever that when we play a WDC (no CUT) event that Blue & 1GG (to name but two), pick the guy who is going to fare badly & subsequently pick all the points.

But it now looks frowned upon to pick the guys that play the OC last has a benefit. I'm sure we could have all looked at this from the beginning.

With my hand on my heart, I just picked players I thought would do well, & it was only after I had made the picks that I thought about the advantage & disadvantages of what course they all played first.

FWIW I'm in favour of 1GG's suggestion - and I have no idea if it affects me or not!

A typical links event has 156 players starting early in the morning and finish late in the day, this time 56 players are on each course.  I wouldn't think the weather would have as much of an impact as a typical day on a links course.

If you tell me that you chose your picks on the basis of who's finishing at St. Andrews in round 3 then fine, I'll leave the scoring as it is.

You make a fair point on limited field, no cut events.  Going forward, worst round and last place points will not be in play.  Sound fair?
