Not Such A Disaster Was It Empty Not Such A Disaster Was It

Post by Doc Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:45 pm

In only 2-days since inception, this new forum has seen over 40 members sign up, and we've seen over 530 posts where all members have contributed except 3.

The darkside admins were hoping for some form of chaos theory to take hold, and see mass brawls, arguments, abusive language, threats and worse. Oh how silly they must look now, after shooting themselves in the foot. We've only seen sensible debate, opinions, banter and laughs so far, and to be fair the membership are here just for that. Early days and still much to do, but think this is going to be a great place.

Davie/Mav; I think we could do with a 'Tips' thread of some description, but think it could do with seperating so that the reader doesn't have to troll through pages and pages to read something particular to his/her problem. Bunker shots/fairway bunker; uphill/downhill lies; playing into wind; putting; ball above/below feet etc, etc, etc. Any views on how this can be done? or even if its worth doing.

Regarding"Tips", I can think of a couple of ways of doing it. Could be a separate subsection of the golf forum with one thread for different aspects of tips, or it could just be a sticky in the main golf section covering all tips. Either way would work

I think this is a much friendlier place and it's nice to know there aren't any Mods looking over your shoulder. I can post on the "other place" but have been blocked from sending PMs because I told Gael and Mary about this site (and they already knew anyway). Sad, isn't it?

Im glad the place is going well for you but equally its all very calm and pleasant over on 606v2. So maybe the mods made the right decision for everyone concerned and everyones a winner.

It's a lot easier to talk about anything on here and disagree without being threatened with expulsion.

I suspect this is the place diggers will come to when he fancies a bout of contraryness. And it's a good thing that he is able to do that.

Looks like this one should be in the "off topic" section now despite Doc's good intentions

Things have started well but we will need to grow and there's plenty of ways of doing that.

What we don't need is more petty arguments that caused friction before. So let's get on with what we all do best mass-debating!!!

If we are going to have a tips thread/section, how about we use it to post links to videos/articles on sites like youtube or some of the golf magazines? If we do go down that route, might be worth having a Tips subsection then separate threads for driving, putting, short game etc.

Just my thoughts..............

If I'm honest, judging by some of the newbies we've had, I'd far rather we focused on quality rather than quantity.

D4S sounds like a good idea, we'll take that on board see what we can come up with...

Also on that portion of the forum what about a rate my swing thread where can post links to our own majestic/horrific swings for advice/ridicule!

Merc

Focus here will always be on quality over quantity and getting the right balance not on numbers out weighing good debate and atmospere

Been over to the Darkside this morning and have to say it looks pretty dull. This is much more lively and interesting with a bit of chat and some interesting debates. I agree with Merc, though, I'd rather go for quality over quantity, especially if they are all like a certain chocolate bar!

Over 1100 posts in just over 3 days since opening, and nearly 500 of those on golf.

Not a bad start, I'd say

Golfers are always going to post more thoughtful articles than the hooligans that inhabit the football terraces... even if sometimes they are the same person. Innocent
