Changing Of The Guard - Cav

Post by Doc on Fri Jul 12, 2013 6:21 pm

I always enjoy watching the Tour De France and have really enjoyed watching Mark Cavendish smash all records over the last few years. Cav is renowned as the fastest man on a cycle in the world, faster than anyone's ever been, so its been great having another British world champion. However we all expected Cav to have won around 4 stages in this years TDF, but he's only managed the one so far, and seems to have had a few problems with his lead-out team which left him exposed. Last night however saw something thats never been seen before, Cav was blasting ahead in the final sprint, and the comentator said 'well thats it then nobody gets past Cav ... oh my word Kittel has gone past cav and won ......' Cav was big enough to say his team did well and put him in position, but Kittel was faster. So todays fairly flat stage will be the last 'eyes-out' sprint finish for a while, and Cav will need to show it was a freak, or if not it will mean he's only 2nd best now.

Based on today's result Doc, he could have had an off day yesterday where he wasn't quite 100% or he relaxed a fraction earlier than he should have done. He's joint third in stage wins now which is a remarkable achievement.
