Brilliant Can we jail Staff From The Environment Agency

Brilliant story about the Italians jailing some scientists and officials because of an earthquake that killed 309 people. Can we please jail top people from the environment agency because of floods, and please lets jail staff from the met office because of too much rain. Gordon Brown should do some serious time because of his lack of handling the bankers, and Tony Blair for going to war.

Can't wait to see what they do with the captain of the Concordia. Think it will be shades of how they dealt with 'Il Duce' and string him up from a lamp post with paino wire. Even better the serial paedo Berlosconi is in court at the minute too Innocent

Weathermen and women are probably the only people that get to make a complete balls up over half the time and still keep their jobs. Bar stewards!

Is that women in general Grumps? Bit of a wide, sweeping generalisation, careful that you don't end up falling foul of the law with sexist comments like that! Wink

There was me trying to be inclusive of weatherwomen and weathermen, you pedantic git Wink.

How about: whomever does the weather can be generalised as about as useful as a solar powered torch as they frequently mess it up yet remain gainfully employed.

By the way, the definition of being pedantic is nit picky little fooker

I must admit I was amazed at this story. Joking aside, surely earthquakes are hell of a lot harder to predict than the weather

I've known a couple of geologists in my time and they don't strike me as hardened criminals. To jail a scientist who probably wears open toed sandals and a rucksack for failing to predict an earthquake seems almost Nazi or Chinese communist to me.

What next? Jail car designers for causing car crashes? Aircraft manufacturers for for air crashes which is more likely a pilot error anyway?

How about jailing firemen for not predicting warehouse fires? Where will it end?

Davie it ends for you in 2014 if it's a yes vote Smile

On a serious note though, these scientists, which were probably bullied by the local officials, gave out misleading information. "Probably due to have an earthquake, but it wont be too bad ......." Wrong and many died. Could there be ramifications to the scientists who are pro and anti global warming, when it becomes apparent that one side is wrong? Or how about scientists who said that genetic crops will kill the human race, even though they're used in the USA and have been for many years.

It never ceases to amaze me how poor the public understanding of science really is. Meteorology is incredibly difficult, and the quality and accuracy of our weather forecasts is truly astounding given how many variables there are. The trouble is that if they say there's a 40% chance of rain, and it rains all day, idiots think they got it wrong. The same idiots, mind you, who spunk more money than they can afford on the lottery every week, despite the odds being more like 1 in 14 million.
