Site Going Backwards?

I don't know about you lot, but it seems like this site is dying a slow death. Everyone who came with us seems to be back on the dark side. We can't seem to get any golfing debate going and hardly any new posts about anything. Diggers, 1GG, Mary, LP, BC, LJ now and again and most of the time Diggers and myself may as well be texting each other.

Davie whats your view mate as you did the work and keep it going. How do we get the members to post some stuff and reinvigorate the place again

I think it's time of the year stuff really Doc. Summer is here, if you can call it that, so people are into other things like holidays etc. Plus you got the Olympics going on at the moment distracting a lot of people, apart from me that is. I have to put up with NBC coverage so stuff you've seen hours ago and are talking about I won't have seen until well after the fact, especially if an American athlete isn't involved.

I will take your points on board and will start a new thread about a ball fitting I had recently.

I had a quick look in on the dark side yesterday and saw a post by this 'fader' character that seemed to wind a few people up. I actually put my oar into that post (First time for 10-months) OP gave him some stick And I see that prick Mac is still everyones go-to numpty.

Maybe we should send out an email to all members reminding them that we're still around and always open to some debate especially about golf.

Maybe we should challenge the dark side to a golf event or a quiz. We may get more duel posters?

Maybe we should just accept that the site will probably never be that busy.
I like posting on here as there are some good guys but most of the time its tumbleweed.
I cant really see why anyone on here would have an issue posting on the dark side. There is no moderation or intervention, Navyblueshorts never really has to do anything. Not really any big barneys, people have banter but its all in good humour most of the time and if they agree to differ then so be it.
I know why Davie set the site up in the first place but times have changed, I think that if everyone went over to the other board it would be a pretty vibrant place.
Im happy to post on both sites so not really that bothered but it does seem to a bit of a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I tend to agree with Grumps on this. This site was set up for people who didn't like the way the other place was going.

I have a vested interest and can't really provide an objective view on things because of the way I was treated on the old place.

I started on the dark side as a regular member and although I was a relative newcomer on the old BBC 606, because of the time I spend online thanks to my line of work, I was one of the people who encouraged the old BBC 606 regulars to move to the dark side as opposed to any of the other spin off sites.

I joined V2 as a normal member but as I'd had time to suss out the other spin offs, IMO V2 was the best of a bad lot

As I dragged people from BBC to V2, the founders of V2 noticed the work I did and first appointed me as a golf moderator there; as it became obvious to them that I was an old hand at forums and knew more than they did about administration of a forum, they promoted me to admin and while I disagreed with a lot of their ideas, I was the one who set up the V2 portal, the shop pages, and taught the other admins how to set up forums.

Basically, I along with Merc and "Maverick" (whoever he may be) were shafted out of the place thanks to just one or two of the admin team there

As it happens, it seems that just maybe they have learned their lesson over there and from the few times I've dipped in as a guest, it seems they basically leave the golf section alone, which is what I advocated all along - however, the small minded people there aren't very flexible and I still can't see myself being welcomed back there

So I'm happy with the low volume but high quality of posts we genrally get here. If they wanted me back on the same terms I left, I'd consider it but there is no way that is going to happen

Actually if you compare what goes on here with what goes on there, I don't see a lot of difference, and what difference there is isn't necessarily a good thing - you have Mac trolling away for all he's worth and there is still the occasionaly post from other mods or admins who make it look like they are trying to be chummy but I know the way these people work and I am fairly convinced it has been discussed amongst themselves in terms of "let's try talking to the golfers again to see if we can win them round". They are crafty, but ultimately still pretty stupid and transparent to anyone who has seen the way they work

This week sees the Bridgestone and next week the USPGA - maybe we can get some more posts going on here - I've actually been quite pleased with the traffic we've had here on "other sports" and "off topic" in recent days.

I always said that we would benefit from Kwini coming here but he wouldn't, and in my opinion, his articles have got worse in recent months; similarly, I wanted PD to come here with his OGWR posts, but they are mostly now discussions between PD, kwini and Mysti and not much else

If I could have a wish come true, I'd like kwini, PD and mysti to come over here and really the rest are no better than what we already have here - there is an old engineers term "signal-to-noise-ratio" and I think our signal to noise is far higher than there - it just means we are quieter.

I have no problem with the double dippers - I'd like more of the double dippers to PM some others there and get more people to double dip here - but that risks the wrath of the Hobonator

I just find the atmosphere here far more pleasant and I haven't had to moderate ANYONE here apart from one of the V2 admins who took it upon himself to come here and try to cause trouble

If they were more flexible, I'd like to see us join together again one day - but at the moment I just don't see that happening

i have to admit that my interest in the game has been somewhat lacking of late. Two kids, one of which is still not 6 months old, has made it tough to get out and play. That said as I've been posting more recently my desire to play has gone up.

Hoping to get out a few times in the next couple of weeks.

Things may be quiet here, but nothing will encourage me to return to the dark side (I got banned there anyway and refuse to grovel to get them to allow me back). If this forum folds, then that will be the end of my involvement which would be a pity but not the end of the world!

LP - rest assured this forum will not fold. Even if it gets quieter, there is still enough quality here to keep going - even if it's only a couple of posts a day

I saw a similar thing happen with a music forum - a very popular forum that went through a similar meltdown to what happened on V2 golf. A good friend of mine was forced to leave because he was hounded out by trolls so he set up a spinoff forum.

The spinoff is very quiet but full of real quality - the original place is still busy but still infected with the bile that caused the spinoff.

I'd go for quality over quantity every day - and even if the ones who were originally deposed from V2 were welcomed back (which I can't see ever happening), this place will continue as long as there are people here to chat

I don't post much about my own golf at the moment, as I've only played a few times this year due to an ongoing health problem.

I do enjoy pitching into the other threads though, and it's interesting to read how the rest of you are getting on with your games, despite this awful weather.

LP you were banned? I can't believe it! I would have expected more appropriate behaviour from a trusted member of our judiciary system
