Not sure SR. I don't think he has completed the family move yet. I think they were waiting for the school year to finish before moving to California. I've been meaning to drop him an email so your question will prompt me to get in touch.

It could be a logistical nightmare trying to relocate all of his 'nurses.' Nurse Fairly sure they're taking well care of him during his move.

I was just a little bothered that apart from his impending move over the pond, the last post he made here was in reply to someone who seemed to be doubting one of his on-course anecdotes. It maybe just the relocation that is causing his absense, but it's also possible he just got sick of people doubting him

To be fair Davie, he did leave himself a bit open to suspicion of more than a little exaggertation on the odd occasion.

I recall the post where he walked off the driving range one evening after having 15 consecutive shanks, only to read a few short days later that he had shot 63 in a qualifying competition to claim a new course record. Or the post when he spoke about hitting the green on two par fours with his drive one day, helped by the assistance of a following tail wind. Only for another poster to then point out that according to the plan of the course the holes ran in completely opposite directions.

Having said that I always enjoyed his contributions and my conversations with him and hope to see him back on here before too long

What? Golfers, on t'internet, telling fisherman's tales. Who'd a thunk it?

Not sure if it was this site or the darkside but someone had a hard on for Mav. Have seen his swing and its pretty damn good.

His purple and pink strides have got him in trouble with the gangs and he was forced to join. He moved to Compton and I hear is now doing a 10 stretch with his homies after a failed driveby on a rival

I think it was Hibbz on the darkside who had the knives out for him. I thought Hibbz also joined here but can't see him on the memberlist

I wouldnt say anyone had it in for him. He was happy to give out a bit of stick and he took some back, its the nature of the boards really if you are a more fiesty sort of poster.

I don't think that Hibbz had the knives out for him, he just picked him up on a couple of things that were a bit suspect. The way that Mav over-reacted sometimes, suggested to me that Hibbz may have been correct

Agreed. As more of a reader than poster, I'd be glad to witness his return. Apart from anything , i'm curious to know whether he's been able to maintain his season long putting average from last year of 22 putts per round.

Sounds a bit of a tall tale unless he was hitting very few greens in regulation but in possession of a fiendish good short game.

A couple of years ago I used to average 27-28 putts a round but was only hitting about 8 greens and getting up and down 90% of the time. Didn't mean I was a good putter, or accurate with my approach shots.

Strange - I followed Mav on Twitter (and he followed the GolfChat twitter account too) - I just did a search and he seems to have vanished from there also (unless he has renamed his account and I can't spot it)

Just for information I was looking at the results last week of a comp in Kent that a friend of mine had helped organise

Sure enough, there on the entry list was a person with the same name that Mav used on his twitter account

Declared handicap was 9.6 - by my calculation that's about 100 rounds at +1 from the handicap he used to claim on here

Mac reckons a guy called Fader on 606v2 is Mav. Apperently he cropped up just as Mav went from here, said they both posted the same video clip of a swing and lots of similarities in terms of description etc. Fader claims the handicap Davie mentions.
Who knows eh, the interwebby is a strange place, hilarious if its true.

I've browsed the other place as a guest and don't really see the same style of posting from Fader, though there are some similarities

I think the whole pint of internet trolls...freaks...is they are good at having different personas. Otherwise why do it, mind you quite why you would do it anyway is beyond me but an awful lot of people do.

Smart ones are good at impersonating different people, but the less smart are usually easily spotted

Mav had a distinctive style - a lot of it down to posting perhaps from a mobile device. Fader doesn't have that style and I'm not sure I can see either of them being able to switch styles so readily.

I'm not sure about Fader / Mav. Could be true.

Mav had a huge back story - if it was all fabricated I'm sure he would have been caught out somewhere along the line. It's easy i suppose to pretend you are a scratch player, but all those little details, you would lose track eventually.

The more snippets you write here, the more fantastical his life becomes. I guess when you step back and piece it all together you could probably find many holes in the stories.

I can see why someone would make up stories about being a great golfer, pulling loads of women, being rich.... people brag about these things in real life. But why would you make up a story about your clubs being stolen or your daughter's golf?

Because if you dont fill in the detail Red then all the rest looks far too obvious and unbelieveable. Soften it up with a bit of real life stuff and suddenly you have a plausible charachter.

Dont be ridiculous MPB, its not because he looked like Tom Cruise......its because he was a fighter pilot in his spare time and single handedly defeated the whole Russian airforce to save the world.......

Fader told a very amusing story recently about the time he soiled his shorts on the golf course, whilst in the company of a new girlfriend.

I'm not sure that Mav would have admitted to anything quite that embarrassing!
