Post by LondonJonnyO Fri May 25, 2012 8:17 am

tomorrow morning at 9:40 my 2 year old little slug is being operated on for a hernia. I am going out of my mind with worry... Hoping that he's ok both during and after.

Damn kids! How do they get to you so much!

All the best LJ, I've no doubt he will be fine but I'd be the same. Little gits.

Am sure it will go fine LJ - hospitals are very good these days at making children feel secure in the strange environment.

It's only natural to worry - my lad had the hernia op at 5 months old, and I remember crying when the letter arrived with the date for his operation! Embarassed But, apart from sleeping more than usual for a couple of days, he had no ill effects.

I'm sure all will go well LJ. It's just the feeling of helplessness I find that causes all the worry.
An extra hug from his Dad will normally sort everything.

he gets lots of hugs.

Instead he's going to get some ice-cream. He's usually not allowed that.

I hope things went well LJ and the slug barely registered what was happening. I'm sure he'll enjoy the ice cream and want to do it again so he can get some more another time.

I've just seen on LJ's facebook status that the op didn't happen today and they were all sent home to wait for another appointment - must be very frustrating for them all!

Bet the slug didn't get the ice cream after all. Fingers crossed for the op to take place soon so LJ can stop worrying.

Im sure the lad will get an ice cream anyway, after a morning at a hospital waiting around they will all deserve one. Having to use chocolate buttons to bribe my 2 year old to take some anti biotics at the moment, its all one big negotiation.

Nope. No op. not happy.

As for icecream. He's allergic to milk. So we have to find soy based stuff or make it. Which can be a pain and as a result he's usually not allowed any.

Sounds like a good night out there. Not so sure about the frenchmen mind you! Innocent

Do you know when the next appointment will be, or are they keeping you guessing?

right. monday. as an emergency op as it was bad enough that he was taken to a&e in an ambulance. Almost had to come home from bournemouth but they didn't want to do it straight away.

So... no dublin trip and instead it's off to the hospital for surgery and worry.

All done. Finally happened at half six last night. He did well as he hadn't eaten for 24 hours at that point... and in the end went around 36 without food.

5% chance of it coming back though. But for now... he's ok. Although that might be the morphine...

Me too Davie. I think he'll be fine. In the car on the way back I asked what he wanted to do later.

His response.... "Play golf!"

What a little star. Off his own back at 2 years old! ilu

nope! Back again in about two weeks for allergies!

And better than people might expect. He tidies up after himself (and me), helps with the washing, hoovers, makes his own bed and loves his baby sister. and even though he now has a bed with no bars he doesn't get up until we tell him he is allowed to get out of bed.

Great little kiddie.

Also. he counts, and understands the numbers, can write his own name, and knows both mummy and daddy's real names so he can tell people what we are called if he ever gets lost.

Exceptional little boy. But then every father thinks that!

I don't think Steve can manage all that yet, and he's 29! Laughing

Pleased to hear that all went OK, he sounds like a real wee treasure. Smile

He is. He's my little slug!

to see if people laugh at this he's currently very into sharks... so when driving through the forest this is our conversation.

LJ: "Gregory what can you see?"
LittleSlug:"Tree!"
LJ:"What's in the trees?"
LS:"Shark"
LJ:"What type of shark?"
LS:"Blue shark!"
LJ:"What's it doing there?"
LS:"Look water?"
LJ:"Why?"
LS:"Shark want swim in water. Food in water"
LJ:"oh. ok"

He's also starting to read. So proud of my lad! ilu

It's so heartening to hear that there is at least one parent in the country who understands the importance of bringing up children properly - why can't everyone do it? Well done LJ and all the best for the future for LS Cross Fingers
