Claire Squires.....
...am I alone in finding this all a bit bizarre. Sad that she died of course...though Im sure she wasnt the only young person to die last Sunday.....but why would 63000 strangers from 60 countries suddenly donate £750k to the Samaritans because of her death ?
Why not just give to a charity that you personally support and spare a thought for her as you do it, its not like the Samaritans are everyones cup of tea. Mind you its great for Justgiving, is it 5% of all donations they get to keep ?

The Just Giving site is another one of my many gripes!!! Yes its simple to use and makes it easy for the person wanting sponsoring as they don't have to go and collect the cash from everyone. BUT if you sponsor someone its usually months or weeks in advance and your cash is taken straight away ..... Who's to say the 'challenge' is going to go ahead or get completed. I've been stung a few times and recently by my nephew is going to cycle from London to Brighton this summer, but he's had his bike nicked and is cancelling, yet the whole family has already given. Yes it was for a good cause etc, but its almost like being raped

I'm always cautious of these things. One question that sticks in my mind is how much does it cost to run the site and what percentage sticks to the hands of the owners as it moves through their paws. I'm sure the charities are happy to pay the overhead but someone somewhere has to be paying for it.
