We have eight goldfinches
On our bird feeder just now.

Oh dear, not really... oh wow!

Notice that two males have claws
Firmly gripped on the feeder's rim.
And near by, two female finches chirping,
Not worried, hurried or grim.

Look! They're setting a sweet trap
To lure the other four guests,
Determined not to waste time
Upping the ante, primping the nest.

Alas, so it seems in Scotland
Unless playing in the yellow gorse,
2 'birds' will beat 6 'eagles.'
The only remedy: whiskey... of course!
